This title is somehow a bit barker and to be totally honest i have actually no idea if this will ever be true. Alan Wilder is not the regular band musician you can find in most cases, he was not formerly part of Depeche Mode when it started and from what is read, joined the band mainly to make a living.
At first he was only a keyboard player. From Depeche Mode history point of view, his influence became real with “Construction Time Again”, the whole album became more complex in its approach and structure. Alan managed to give an experimental taste to the more classical and minimalist approach of Martin Gore’s tunes.
From “Black Celebration” to “Songs of Faith and Devotion” he beautifully crafted every song, giving shape to moods, ambiances we all have enjoyed.
Many of my favorite Depeche Mode songs are songs where Alan was involved, he, Dave’s voice, great Martin composing was the “crème de la crème” of what you can expect from an “Electronic band” and mainly from Depeche Mode.
I don’t think Alan and Martin were sharing exactly the same view about music, and it is really what makes this band having such a strong personality. Depeche Mode carries this dark and tensed feeling, a sort of strangeness Alan was the best to enhance. No producer since his departure did as well in any other of theirs LP’s. Depeche Mode keeps on doing great songs, but to me (still) more conventional and somehow expected.
So, I think having Alan coming back again could be a great idea, for one last record, a record making history of course.
Alan will you ?

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Wilder will produce next Depeche Mode LP in 2009., but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
Aaron, i went through my article and did some changes to make things clearer.
Let me know about it.
To put it straight: I Think Alan is needed as a depeche mode member, even though he is not part of depeche mode anymore.
Heck, lets bring back Vince and have a real reunion…Would’nt that be something?
Hi there was searching Google for musician lp and your blog regarding lder will produce next Depeche Mode LP in 2009. looks really interesting for me. I will definitely bookmark it and come back for more cool postings to read! Cheers!
yeah right…nice joke , fellows !
Ben Hillier will produce Modes 2009 release.
Ben Hillier: well, I guess it is all right… but millions miles away from Alan Wilder awesome work. Ben Hillier does the job, but he misses something subtle about the band: Its darkness and strangeness.
Remember Black Celebration and Violator ?!
Ben Hillier won’t come close to such great records.
Internally, Alan has always been the best producer for DM and then a fresh touch from a new collaborative producer with every new record. This would’ve been perfect bringing him back. Can you imagine what he would do with some Ultra, Exciter and Playing the Angel Songs. You would shit yourself! He’s the Dali of sound. If it can’t be him, why Hillier again. Rather bring back Flood if you want repeats. I’d love DM to work with Trevor Horne or Tim Palmer (Tears for Fears, The Mission). Tim Palmer would produce Christian’s drums awesomely, woven with electronic beats very powerfully…I miss that quintessential feel that was present in Black Celebration, Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion. It was indescribably horny, mysterious, dark, sexy all those things. Mart’s songs, Al’s sound, Dave’s voice…This and the release of a World Violation Tour DVD will be sssssoooooo amazing! I don’t believe there’s not enough quality footage and audio from that tour. I just watch that KALEID intro wit the ROSE curtains and I think:” If the ‘Rush’ opening of the exotic tour in Johannesburg almost made me pass out with euphoria, waht was World Violation like???!!
…PS It’s the press conference tomorrow!!! Can you wait? Hang on to your Leder Hose! Ich kann nicht mehr!!
DM sound is not the same anymore without Allan. Bring back Allan and Martin should start appreciating his work
I say that dm should bring Alan Back. He is a very needed backbone to the band.
Alan will never return. Something inside him broke after the Songs of Faith and Devotion album and tour(he has used these words in an interview.) Let’s face it, it will never happen.
